Job Summary
Leadership role responsible for directing the UBR based Merchandise functions related to Planning & Analysis and Inventory Management. Key objectives are to drive the merchandise plans that support the financial/operating plans of the owned or operated businesses, develop strategies to deliver efficiencies in the ordering and movement of product from vendors/factories to the supported businesses, maximize sales performance through effective inventory management, identify opportunities for improved margins either through negotiated costs or pricing strategies and the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures for UBR Merchandise. Day to day management of the UBR based planning team to ensure adherence to Universal Parks & Resort Global Merchandise policies.
Major Responsibilities
Drives the Planning Process
Partner with the UP+E Global Parks Merchandise team to drive improvements to the planning processes and execute the annual merchandise plans in support of the business units financial / operating plans. Focus on the development of annual operating plans, analysis tools and automation.
Partner with the Product Development team to evaluate, plan and execute strategies for new brands and attractions.
Financially evaluate sales performance and identify key business drivers on which to capitalize.
Work in conjunction with Product Development team to identify, analyze and thoroughly vet potential new business opportunities.
Define and drive the pricing strategy for UBR. Establish consistency in our pricing matrix to reflect the value of the product while seeking to maximize profitability. Establish process for the review of existing prices and communicating recommendations for changes.
Seek opportunities related to UBR for ordering efficiencies, consolidation of orders by vendor / manufacturer / region to maximize shipping efficiency.
Partner with Product Development team on continuing development of key strategic vendor relationships to include consolidation of spend, increased rebates, and higher levels of adherence to UPR compliance Programs. Identify opportunities for direct sourcing by product type and partner with the UPRGM Global Sourcing Team.
Manage inventory and establish controls to ensure owned or operated businesses are operating at the highest level of performance based on key performance metrics and minimized supply chain risk.
Partner with the Product Development team to develop a local sourcing strategy for UBR specific products.
Direct the definition UBR Standard Operating Procedures and identification of process improvements.
Identify, analyze, define and document existing UBR processes.
Seek opportunities to automate, enhance and drive improvements to the existing processes either with our own resources or in partnership with the IT group.
Identify gaps in the existing processes. Define and execute strategies to eliminate the gaps.
Leadership
Lead and develop the Planning staff & Merchandise Analysts to promote an environment of teamwork and cooperation between planning, product development and operating partners.
Perform other duties as assigned.
SCOPE:
Manage development of UBR owned business merchandise plans that support the financial targets of our operating partners. Manage performance to revenue, per cap and COGS metrics.
Manage and execute merchandise purchasing to maximize return on the investment on behalf of the various operating partners.
Development and execution of multi-year plans related to business opportunities or process improvements.
Manage the team through changes associated with the growth of the UBR business and the complexities associated with that growth.
Ensure all compliance program requirements are met in the protection of the business and all associated brands.
Qualifications
Position requires ability to develop and execute business plans for the business and manage performance against those plans. A thorough understanding of key retail metrics (Initial Mark Up, Average Inventory, ITO, COGs, etc.) is needed.
Position requires the ability to negotiate with vendors concerning payment terms, cost factors and requirements of our logistics programs. Strong understanding of trends impacting the cost factors associated with the production and delivery of our merchandise. Cost factors include, but are not limited to, raw materials, wage rates, fuel costs and availability of transportation assets. Understanding of import/export requirements is beneficial.
Strong attention to detail and ability to identify trends in sales rates, changes in product costs as well as compliance requirements.
Ability to leverage technical solutions to meet or improve business performance

7-10 years of experience in planning and analysis or inventory management.
Education
Bachelor's degree: Business Management, Finance.
