    BIG is looking for a Business Development Manager to join its office in Shanghai, China.

    The Business Development Manager works closely with the Director of China to create initiatives that support the acquisition of projects and creation of new business in the China region. In support of the larger market strategy identified by the Director of China, a Business Development Manager is responsible for submarkets within the region and will work closely with the company's Senior Leadership involved in projects in China including Partners to prioritize opportunities, build relationships, and secure projects. On a day-to-day basis, the Business Development Manager will be responsible for the securing of a project from start to finish, initiating proactive endeavors that support the larger market strategy and present new business opportunities, overseeing the background tasks of the Business Development Coordinators, and building relationships with a vast network of clients, consultants, and collaborators. You will be based in Shanghai and work closely with the business development team as well as the partner group and management leaders.

    As a Business Development Manager, you will:
  • Give active support to the Business Development Team, including Business Development Directors and Partners
  • Produce content independently while discussing key strategy points with Director of China
  • Initiate, lead, and deliver special projects and proactive initiatives
  • Open new submarkets and lead new business for a submarket/discipline including interfacing and strategy with senior internal team members at BIG and managing the pipeline for that submarket
  • Maintain and expand Client and collaborator connections
  • Ability to run 4-10+ simultaneous pursuits with limited oversight including:
  • Ability to turn a lead into a project
  • Run an acquisition including the development of a fee proposal and leading of subsequent negotiations with clients and consultants (including internal operations team members at BIG—such as finance, legal, operations, etc.) and the handover to a Design Team
  • Vet RFPs/RFQs/RFIs for dedicated submarket. Have the ability to produce and oversee the submission. Present strategic ideas within the submission and teaming process that distinguish the firm's submission and point of view
  • Host meetings with potential Clients with Directors or Partners, and lead the follow-up with the Client and internally assess and develop recommendations for the new potential projects
  • Give office and project tours for Clients, consultants, and other VIPs
  • Represent BIG at events and conferences
  • Take part in leadership pipeline meetings
  • Maintain CRM databases and present reporting on new projects and potential projects to Head of
  • Assist with training of new junior team members, manage team background tasks, and have the ability to manage coordinator output for any of the above processes
  • Run and participate in bi-weekly Manager Meetings across all BIG offices
  • Prepare regular status updates, ad-hoc and on a weekly basis
  • Take initiative and bring ideas to the table
  • BIG is looking for applicants with:
  • Minimum of seven+ years' experience from similar or related position
  • Masters level degree in either marketing, business, communication and/or architecture, or related field
  • Fluency in English and Chinese (fluency in another language is a plus)
  • Proficiency in MS Office & Adobe CS (particularly InDesign)
  • Great graphic design skills
  • Experience with CMS client management software is a plus
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • An interest and affinity with market research
  • An understanding of architecture, building procedures and urban planning is recommended
  • Self-discipline and confidence in an ad hoc environment.
