    We are looking for a University Guidance Counsellor for an international school located in Zhuhai. This is a full-time position starting from the upcoming academic year in August 2023.

    About the role

    The University Guidance Counsellor is a crucial part of the student journey, supporting them in career and university planning. They collaborate with relevant departments to understand student ambitions and goals, provide personalized assistance to students and families, and contribute to the professional development of teachers and workshops for parents. The successful candidate will play a vital role in the School community. Responsibilities include:

    • Assist students in making realistic and informed college choices
    • Support successful college applications for each student
    • Enhance the school's reputation in higher education
    • Educate students and parents about universities, majors, admissions, and testing
    • Provide personalized counseling for students in Year 10 - Year 13
    • Facilitate meetings between university representatives and students
    • Maintain accurate student records and write school recommendations
    • Contribute to careers counseling and coordinate events
    • Inform teachers about the application process
    • Support students with online applications and preparation
    • Assist with clearing and final admissions processes
    • Participate in student and parent activities
    • Maintain records of admissions decisions and data
    • Collaborate with other counselors to improve practices
    • Contribute to school and co-curricular activities
    • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Line Manager

    Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree in relevant subject area
    • Master's degree an advantage
    • Minimum 5 years' experience in similar filed
    • Familiarity with and understanding of recent developments in higher education
    • At least two years successful experience in an international school setting
    • Strong understanding and knowledge of the admission system to colleges, especially in the US and UK but also in Canada, Australia, Korea, Hong Kong and other European and Asian popular with students
    • Understanding of and experience working with non-native English-speaking students and parents
    • Complete fluency in English (equivalent to mother tongue), Bi-lingual is preferred.
    • Organizational and management skills in education and classroom settings
