    About Avenues

    Avenues Shenzhen opened in Fall 2019. It serves nearly 600 students in all grades from toddler through 12th, and will continue to grow substantially in enrollment in coming years. Suffused with light, surrounded by greenery and seamlessly integrating technology, the campus is an urban oasis where architecture inspires learning and curiosity. The curriculum features language immersion, learning through play and interdisciplinary study in a state-of-the-art facility.

    Secondary Division

    The Middle and Upper Grades are where our ambitious goals for Avenues graduates, defined in our , are most comprehensively realized. While in grades 6-12, we prepare students for a globally connected, innovation-driven, and largely unknown future. Our students will be: accomplished in all the academic skills you would expect, at ease beyond their borders, and confident because they excel in a particular passion.

    About the Role

    English classes in the middle grades are interdisciplinary. Science, art, music and other disciplines are closely interwoven with literature studied in English. Classes are discussion-based, promoting inquiry, exploration, and presentation. We expect students to write well and frequently, and engage in independent project work. You will also:

  • About You
  • At least 3 years of experience teaching literature and literacy to non-native English speakers and a strong track record of student learning and growth
  • A strong ability to develop middle grades students into passionate, curious and skillful readers and writers
  • Pedagogy that engages all students in interesting, meaningful and challenging work, particularly a reading and writing workshop approach
  • Profound commitment to ensuring and nurturing children's wellbeing
  • Highly effective collaborator, eager to listen deeply, contribute to a team and achieve goals together
  • Dedication to learning and developing the craft of teaching
  • Very resourceful and adaptive, eager to embrace constant change, growth and learning
  • Bachelor's degree; graduate degree in education or related field is ideal
  • Academic-level proficiency in English
