    The Opportunity

    Launched in August 2019 as Herbert Smith Freehills Kewei, the joint operation offers seamless access to both PRC and foreign laws advice, combining the global strength of leading international law firm Herbert Smith Freehills and the local capability of Kewei.

    With over 60 dispute resolution specialists in Greater China, we offer the most comprehensive dispute resolution services in the region, with a proven ability to solve business problems in China and beyond. Our practice spans domestic and cross-border litigation in mainland China and Hong Kong, as well as international arbitration and other forms of alternative dispute resolution. We regularly handle arbitration proceedings seated in China and Hong Kong, as well as China-related disputes seated in other global centres. Our integrated platform offers a "one-stop-shop" for China-related disputes without the need to engage separate PRC counsel.

    We are looking for three mid-level associates, to be based in Shanghai or Beijing. You will work as a core member of the team on cross-border disputes, particularly those related to construction and engineering, power, infrastructure and energy, as well as on high value commercial disputes and international arbitration.

    Skills, experience and qualifications:

  • Have an excellent academic record;
  • Be qualified in common law jurisdiction(s) (highly preferred but not essential);
  • Have at least 6-9 years of legal experience within a disputes practice (construction experience/ focus will be an advantage);
  • Have excellent drafting skills for disputes work;
  • Have strong English and Chinese capability;
  • A team player who is able to work independently and to supervise;
  • Have client communication skills; and
  • Have exceptional presentation/public speaking skills (highly preferred but not essential).
