    About Avenues

    Start Date: June 2024

    Avenues Shenzhen opened in Fall 2019. It serves nearly 600 students in all grades from toddler through 12th, and will continue to grow substantially in enrollment in coming years. Suffused with light, surrounded by greenery and seamlessly integrating technology, the campus is an urban oasis where architecture inspires learning and curiosity. The curriculum features language immersion, learning through play and interdisciplinary study in a state-of-the-art facility.

    About the Role

    The school counselor at Avenues supports and fosters the mental and social-emotional health of students in grades kindergarten to Fifth or Sixth to Twelfth. The counselor works in close partnership with teachers, learning specialists, external therapists, administrators, and parents. This would be separated into direct and indirect student services listed below.

    Direct student services:

  • Tier 1: Implementing the school-wide SEL curriculum to students or assisting teachers in delivering the curriculum in their classrooms.
  • Tier 2: Providing counseling services to a class/group of students during times of transition, heightened stress, critical change, or other situations impeding student success.
  • Tier 3: Providing counseling services to individual students as a part of a social, emotional, and/or behavioral support plan.
  • Indirect student services:

  • Coaching: Coaching teachers to implement class-wide strategies to support student success.
  • Consultation: Recommending strategies supporting student achievement with parents, teachers, other educators, and community organizations
  • Collaboration: Working with other educators, parents, and the community to support student achievement; making referrals and providing community resources for additional assistance and information
  • Note: The school counselor does not provide therapy or long-term counseling in schools. However, school counselors are prepared to recognize and respond to student mental health needs and assist students and families seeking resources.

  • About You

  • 5+ years of professional experience in a school setting
  • Deep expertise in mental health and development of Primary and Secondary age children
  • Very strong clinical skills, to identify, evaluate, and provide services to students with a range of mental and emotional health needs. Can also identify when a referral to an outside service provider may be warranted
  • Experience reading and understanding neuropsychological/psycho-educational evaluations and developing appropriate recommendations and action plans, based on the data, as well as the student's performance in school
  • Profound commitment to ensuring and nurturing children's wellbeing.
  • Highly effective collaborator, eager to listen deeply, contribute to a team, and achieve goals together
  • Very resourceful and adaptive, eager to embrace constant change, growth, and learning
  • Understanding diversity and inclusion practices how one's culture impacts learning and how emotions are expressed
  • Graduate degree in counseling or psychology is required.
  • Native Chinese speaker with professional fluency in English
